First Nation Friendship Centre’s (Vernon) (Collaborator) mandate is “to improve the quality of life for Aboriginal People in an urban environment by supporting self determined activities which encourage equal access to, and participation in Canadian society and which respect Aboriginal Cultural distinctiveness.” Programs include: Aboriginal Early Childhood and Infant Development Centre; Alcohol & Drug Counseling; Employment Services; Family Support Worker; FASD/ARBD; Turtle Circle; Friendship Centre; Kekuli Housing Complex; Prenatal Nutrition; the Sookinchoot Urban Aboriginal Program; Youth Safe House; Vernon Native Housing Society; Sen’Klip Native Theatre; Dental Access and a Downtown Primary Care Centre. Other program positions work out of the Gathering Place – MCFD Aboriginal Services: A Child’s Roots are Forever; Family Circle (Family Group Conferencing); Youth Mentor and the Youth Agreement Support Program. Métis community services of BC has a “mandate from the Métis citizens to provide integrated, holistic, family centred, wraparound services to all those who need assistance, with special emphasis on Aboriginal populations, specifically Métis populations”. Programs are: Aboriginial Outreach; Roots; Family Preservation Program; Aboriginal Supported Development Program; Family Wellness Program; Healing Services; Aboriginal Diabetes Initiative; Attachment Focused Play Thereapy; and the Aboriginal Infant Development Program.
